College and Campus Trivia

The Walking Club, a group of scholars who gathered on Saturday afternoons for hiking, canoeing, and baseball, was founded by this world-class scholar and classics professor.

Who was the professor?

Answer: William Abbott Oldfather

He led the group from 1909 until his death in 1945. Ironically, Oldfather, an expert canoeist, drowned on one of the outings when his canoe capsized.
