Being an Illini Is All Part of This Family's Legacy
A young alumnus doesn't wait to make a difference.
"I remember when I was going through school how easy it was because my parents paid for tuition and room and board. Coming out of school I wasn't burdened by student loans," says Brian Bourey, 29. Seeking to create the same environment he had going through school, in 2006, Brian began the Bourey Family Scholarship which provides need-based aid to psychology students.
Brian and his twin brother Ben grew up in a Fighting Illini home, so it was natural for the two brothers to make their way to the University. Both pursued degrees in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Brian studying psychology and Ben studying political science. After graduating in 2000, the Boureys made their way to Las Vegas where Brian managed a sales team for a real-estate company. Realizing how fortunate he was to achieve success early on, he didn't want to wait to begin giving back to the University.
In September, Brian and a close friend began The Dream Group, which includes real-estate and financial services. Brian works helping students consolidate their federal and private student loans. But Brian does more for students than helping them with their finances. It is his goal to provide the type of financial support he had when he was a student.
The Bourey Family Scholarship serves as a legacy to the Fighting Illini family and as they continue to build the fund, it will preserve the memory of their generosity for generations to come.
