Recognition Societies

Private support makes the difference between an excellent education and an extraordinary one.

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the University gratefully recognize those individuals who are willing and able to offer their support in exceptional ways.

College Recognition

Bronze Circle

Founded in 1985, the Bronze Circle recognizes distinguished alumni and friends who make a commitment to sustaining the excellence of the college. Members are honored by having their names engraved on a plaque that is permanently displayed in Lincoln Hall. They also are invited to special programs and gatherings sponsored by the college. Lifetime membership is conferred on individuals who make a gift, or combination of gifts, valued at $25,000 within a 10-year period or who make a deferred gift or bequest of $50,000 or more.

Loyalty Circle

Donors who are consistent in their support to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences have a special place in our hearts. We call them our loyalty donors. These donors, who have given to the College of LAS five or more years (some more than 30!), are commited to the affordable, excellent education provided by the University of Illinois. Their combined support has provided necessary resources to the college's more than 50 departments and units.

Meet a few Loyalty Circle donors.

University Recognition

Presidents Council

The Presidents Council is the University's highest donor recognition organization. Membership is extended to those who make cumulative outright gifts of at least $25,000 or deferred commitments of $50,000 or more. The Council enables members to share in the substance and success of the University as well as the college. Members of the Council regularly share their professional experience, insight, and informed counsel with University officials and faculty to advance the mission and the scope of the University.

The Presidents Council has five levels of recognition, which reflect increasing levels of support:

  • Membership Circle
  • Consular Circle
  • Centuria Circle
  • Pentad Circle
  • Laureate Circle

Chancellor's Circle

The Chancellor's Circle is a newly established giving society that recognizes donors who give $2,500 or more across the three University of Illinois campuses in a given fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). The society provides recognition of the University's most generous annual supporters, and is based on household cumulative giving across all departments, programs, colleges, and campuses. Matching corporate or foundation gifts are counted in the cumulative annual total for recognition.

The Chancellor's Circle has five levels of recognition:

  • Platinum: $25,000 or more
  • Gold: $10,000 - $24,999
  • Silver: $5,000 - $9,999
  • Bronze: $2,500 - $4,999
