Who Are Learning Leaders?

Learning Leaders are junior or senior honors students who lead the LAS 100 sections. They oversee the group projects undertaken by each Learning Community. They also organize study sessions, offer advice on surviving classes, and are generally available to answer questions relevant to campus life.

Even though Learning Leaders may share tips on studying or test–taking, please do not confuse them with teaching assistants. Only your course TAs will provide instruction on particular course material.

It's all about the freshmen. I am there to listen to their concerns and guide them toward resources, but giving them the opportunity to grow together is the most important aspect of the Learning Communities. I'm glad to be a part of that.

Learning Leaders are trained as peer mentors and are supervised by graduate students and the program coordinator in LAS's Student Academic Affairs Office.

Some day you may become a Learning Leader

Students may apply to become a Learning Leader midway through their sophomore or junior year in college. Apply to be an LAS Learning Leader.
