Apply to be an LAS 101 Freshman Seminar intern
LAS 101 Freshman Seminar Interns are an incredibly important part of LAS 101, the course that helps our first-year students transition to LAS and the University of Illinois.
An LAS 101 internship offers our best students the opportunity to help others while enhancing their own skills and preparing for their chosen professions or advanced scholarship. Past LAS 101 Interns said they developed many skills, such as public speaking, organization, quick thinking, confidence building, mentoring, and much more.
The main responsibility for LAS Interns is to facilitate and manage all aspects of one LAS 101 class section in fall 2018, which will have between 20 to 25 students. Furthermore, LAS Interns will be responsible for implementing lesson plans aimed at helping first-year students design their first-year experience in LAS and Illinois. Finally, Interns serve as peer mentors by sharing their own personal stories and advice with new students.

This summer, I researched the fields of reproductive biology and toxicology while also studying for the National Registry Exam to become a certified EMT! My professional goals include going to medical school. For fun, I love to travel and go skiing every winter break through our University's ski club!

Hey, Illini! My name is Hannah Overbye, I am a junior with a double major in Psychology and Communications and a minor in Art & Design. This summer, I am assisting with research at the Psychophysiology Laboratory at Stanford University in Stanford CA. After college, I am planning on pursuing either a master's or a Ph.D. although I am not entirely sure what I want to study yet. In my free time, I love to workout at the ARC, volunteer with LAS Leaders, read, train dogs, go ice-skating and watch football (Go Pack Go!). I cannot wait to meet you all and welcome you to this amazing university. I-L-L!
Welcome to UIUC! My name is Ayesha Patel and I am currently a senior studying history and secondary education. After graduation, I hope to move back to Chicago and teach for Chicago Public Schools. I've had plenty of amazing teaching moments and opportunities on campus that validated my goal of becoming a teacher. This is my second year as an LAS 101 intern and I look forward to meeting you all!
My name Ciera Phillips. I am a junior, and I was born and raised in the city of Chicago. I'm majoring in History with a concentration in secondary education. In my three years at the University, I have been granted an abundance of leadership opportunities that have influenced my future aspirations. I want to be a high school history teacher and mentor young men and women. I have studied abroad in countries like Hong Kong and Australia to observe their school systems. I have also served as the Vice President of the Minority Association of Future Educators and the Educational Development Chair of my sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. I love education and young people, and I am dedicated to both.
Welcome to the Illini family, everyone! My name is Alex Plezia and I am a senior majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I plan to pursue medical school after undergrad and would love to end up as an ER physician. When I'm not studying, you can usually find me volunteering with the campus service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, running calls as an EMT with Illini Emergency Medical Services, or raising money for Children's Miracle Network (probably wearing a pizza costume) through Phi Delta Epsilon premedical fraternity. I also like baking, hanging out with friends, and running marathons for fun. I'm honored to be a part of your freshman experience - can't wait to meet you!
My name is Miguel, a junior majoring in Earth, Society & Environmental Sustainability. I live in a town just southwest of Chicago, but I was born in California and grew up in Nevada. I spent a lot of time in the mountains of the southwest and I'm a huge outdoors person. Music is a huge part of my life as well! I still buy physical copies of CD's and I spend a little too much money on concerts (oops). My parents are from Mexico and we visit every summer, usually overlapping Lollapaloza so I've never had the chance to go. Fun fact, I'm naturally a righty but I broke my right arm when I was learning how to write so I had to learn to use my left. Over time, I've learned how to use both, making me ambidextrous.
