Students graduating with degrees in Communication are invited to participate in a convocation ceremony hosted by the Department of Communication. This ceremony is only for students who earned degrees in August or December 2017, or are on the May 2018 pending degree list (or plan to finish in August 2018) and who did not participate in the 2017 Winter Convocation.
Degree candidates were sent information in March regarding registration and participation. Registration for the convocation is now closed. If you plan on attending the ceremony, please email firstname.lastname@example.org immediately.
Instructions for graduates
Please read these instructions carefully to ensure that your graduation day goes smoothly.
Each registered participant will receive six tickets, which are provided at no charge. Information concerning distribution will be sent to students in March.
If you reside outside of Champaign-Urbana area, you will have been asked to indicate this in the "comment" section of the registration form. Your information will be mailed to you.
For full details about renting, purchasing, picking up and returning academic attire, please see the university's commencement website.
Personalized graduation announcements may be purchased through the Illini Union Bookstore, 809 S. Wright St., Champaign, or from Herff-Jones. Announcements are also available through local bookstores and copy shops.
Krannert Center for the Performing Arts
500 S. Goodwin Ave.
Urbana, IL 61801
Park for free in Krannert Center’s two-level underground garage. Enter the north ramps (to the Yellow and Orange sections) from Illinois Street or the south ramps (to the Green and Blue sections) from Oregon Street. Additional parking can be found on the streets around Krannert Center or in other University of Illinois parking lots along Oregon and Illinois Streets.
Accessible parking spaces are available on all levels of Krannert Center’s underground garage. Four spaces (one in each color-named section) accommodate vans, and two others (one in Green and one in Blue on the south side of the building) will fit a car. These are located near the elevator entrances.
If family members or guests require special assistance, please contact the Krannert Center directly by calling Nicholas Puddicombe, Patron Service Coordinator (between April 15-May 15) to make arrangements by calling, (217) 333-9716, or sending an email to email@example.com.
A professional photographer will take pictures of you as you receive your diploma cover from the dean of the college. You will be able to order these photographs and will receive information about ordering at the ceremony.
Because it is not possible to process grades and prepare degree lists by the day of the commencement, diplomas will be mailed approximately six weeks after graduation.
Please go into the UI Integrate Self-Service application and enter or update "Diploma Address," which is the address the university will use for mailing your diploma.
- If the diploma is returned to the Office of the Registrar, you will be responsible for providing the correct address and paying for any forwarding mail charges, as well as a processing fee.
- If your diploma is not returned to the Office of the Registrar, you will be responsible for providing the correct address and paying for the cost of the replacement diploma.
An email from the Office of the Registrar will be sent to all potential graduates about three weeks before commencement asking them to verify their name and address and make corrections if necessary.
Contact the Department of Communication for more information.
