Admission to LAS James Scholar Program
There are currently three methods of entry into the James Scholar Program: invitation, self-nomination, and ICT.
To be eligible for the LAS Honors Program, students must be accepted at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Based on that application, the top 12 percent of incoming freshmen are invited to be a part of the program (the invitation will come via email as LAS Honors holds sustainability as a core value).
Current students who wish to be considered for self-nomination must apply prior to the start of their third semester of higher education (previous semesters may have been completed at any college or university).
Students who transfer to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign after completing two years at another institution and will complete a minimum of four semesters at Illinois may also apply prior to the start of their first semester at Illinois.
All applicants must have earned a 3.70 GPA to be considered. Current students: your cumulative University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign GPA will be considered. Transfer students: your cumulative transfer GPA will be considered.
Application for Spring 2017 entry into the LAS James Scholar Program is now available online. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6.
If you are transferring in to the College of LAS and were a James Scholar in Good Standing at another college at U of I, you will be welcomed into the LAS Honors Program provided you meet our GPA requirements (all James Scholars in LAS must have a 3.50 to continue as James Scholars). Please know that you must have already been a James Scholar in your previous college to ICT in to the LAS James Scholar Program. If you were not already a participating/certified James Scholar, you would need to self-nominate provided you meet our entry requirements.
